Norwegian Fishing Cottages Minimize Environmental Impact
Designed in collaboration with Vandervort Architects

The client was attracted to the vaulted steel-wrapped cross section of the Lindal Architects Collaborative Vandervort 2700, featuring laminated beam girders and flat roofed dormers that admit light to the center of the main spaces. At the same time, their mission was to reference the look and human scale of ancestral Norwegian fishing cabins. Working with David Vandervort Architects, we flattened the roof over the center of the design to create two distinct cottage-like roof sections, lifted one volume above the site onto stone piers, and specified true divided-lite windows. Red steel siding finished the traditional spirit with a modern maintenance-free skin.
