In this post see how Warmmodern Living and Lindal create soothing interiors that flow seamlessly to the great outdoors. We feature two of our favorite Lindal capabilities.
Soothing Duotones
Bursts of bright color…playful. Black and white interior palettes… lacking personality and bleak. A kaleidoscope of color…. loud and tiring.
How to create a calm Zen-like ambience. A soothing and relaxed ambience that literally frames the ever-changing daily pattern of sunlight inside and the seasonal shades of the mature deciduous and evergreen trees on this suburban Seattle site.
This custom Warmmodern Living Lindal represents the actualization of a conscious decision to build an environment using only two colors- both found in nature - as a means of achieving that goal.
A charcoal gray, basalt, color that represents the earth beneath us, is used for all the 24" x 24" porcelain tile floors that run through the 2000 square foot main level of the house and extend seamlessly outside to a rooftop terrace and to the front stoop and landscape hardscape. The quartz countertops and steel kitchen backsplash, and in the metal fireplace surround are a similar color.
A warm cedar finish was color-matched for exterior and interior finishes for all of the homes wood surfaces, hallmarks of the Lindal building system extraordinary materials: cedar siding, window frames, trim, and soffits outside…. laminated Douglas firm beams, clear cedar ceiling liner, interior doors and trim on the inside.
Truly my typically loud voice softens, and my blood pressure and pulse assume more relaxed paces each time I visit.
Clients sometimes express concern that the use of multiple species of wood will result in a cacophonous interior. Not so. Warmmodern Living creates for each client a harmonious custom palette of wood finishes for the Lindal components to sooth the eye and the soul.
Open Wide!
Lindals are admired for their transparency. The distinction between inside and outside is hardly noticeable. How do we accomplish that? First of all, the large lites of high-performance glass combine to create expansive glass walls interrupted only by comparatively small laminated posts. Roof beams and wooden ceiling liner continue uninterrupted through the glass wall and further blur the distinction between the interior and exterior.
Today, walls of glass that literally vanish from view take transparency to a new level. Lift and slide doors, in which multiple sliding panels run effortlessly with just one finger causing large glass panels to stack or disappear into a wall pocket. When the doors are closed the rolling panels sit down into the tracks and tightly seal the threshold from air and water infiltration.
Lindal offers clients the choice of beautiful fir lift and slide doors as well as, aluminum clad, fiberglass, and steel doors. The steel lift and slide door panels may be as large as 6 feet wide and 10 feet high and can contain up to a dozen panels!
The Lindal lift and slide offerings are available with a wide variety of hardware styles and finishes and are now available with amazing screens full-length screens that make the units less transparent to critters large and small.
Lift and slide doors are a wonderful way to seamlessly connect large interior and large exterior communal spaces, and are an extravagance at $1400 to $1800 per linear foot. We regularly achieve much the same affect at a less grandiose scale and price with multi-panel sliding glass doors.
